Dear readers,
This July and August, I will be traveling with my husband and our Persian cat across the US, through at least 20 states. We have done trips like this before, but this one is the longest so far: 51 days.
When my husband was seriously considering leaving his job at a state institution couple of years ago, we invested in a mid-size truck and a teeny tiny travel trailer. Since then, we’ve been playing extra hard at our various self-employment gigs so that we can travel to see family and friends, many of whom will likely not set foot in California again, if they ever do for the first time. While that is saddening (because we think that our home is an inviting chill space, and we think that California is a fabulous state, despite the policies in place that are effectively destroying it), we made the commitment to visit them instead of wishing for them to visit us.
On the three-phase adventure, we will have many one-nighters at places like Harvest Hosts and the homes of friends old and new. Sometimes in these places, the internet will not be a thing for us! Also, we have a few very long drives — up to eight hours — which means we will be arriving at our campsite with enough time to set up, eat, and rest up for the next day’s drive.
For those of you who have never traveled via any kind of RV, you may not be aware that camping (yes, even this supposed “luxury” camping) is really like work-release vacation. There is a lot of work involved! I won’t go into the boring details, but trust me, if you travel like we do, it’s WORK!
Don’t get me wrong: We love it! But I won’t sugarcoat the reality.
All that said, I will do my best to write and post a few articles while I’m on the road. But I can’t make any promises.
Meanwhile, we depart tomorrow morning!
Wishing you all excellent health and well-being.💖
Bon Voyage!
Me too! We got a class c. We’re taking 5 cats with us. Writing this as I “camp” in the front yard trying to get 5 cats used to sleeping in a camper.
Good luck and have fun!
